GCSS Background
GCESS is registered as a non-profitable organization which focuses on transforming the lives of generations of girls in South Sudan. GCESS programs seeks to expand educational opportunities for a girl Child including women in South Sudan.
The Education System in South Sudan as the newest Country in the World has been affected by ongoing conflict in the Country since the first civil war in 1983 ( ).
In the process of the longer civil war between North and south, the education system was alternated into Arabic language by the Arab regime while South Sudan which was under the SPLA was operating in English creating divisions among the civil population.
Many children were denied the right to education, especially girls were discriminated against to attend schools equally with boys. That has created a major effect on schooling and the education sector in the Country. Despite progress in the education sector since the independence of South Sudan on July 9, 2011, millions of Children all in the Country are still denied their right to education. As a result, a large number of girls are out of schools while children who were Arabic students are struggling to adopt English language after the government of Republic of South Sudan announced English language as official language in the country.
In the recent war of 2013, ongoing school girls were faced by several problems that are associated with Gender based violence (GBV) , many girls were faced by forced marriage, forced pregnancy and early marriage as a result of the conflict ,also many girls dropped out of school. GCESS believes that providing access to education to all children, especially girl children is one way of stopping transmission of poverty from generation to generation in South Sudan.
