Thematic Programme
Areas of Focus
Education
GCESS promotes inclusive and equitable access to quality education for girls and young women across South Sudan. The program supports school enrollment, retention, and completion through provision of learning materials and mentorship. It also focuses on improving literacy, numeracy, and life skills necessary for personal and professional development. Community engagement is strengthened to address cultural barriers and encourage equal participation in education.
Women Empowerment
GCESS empowers women and girls by building their confidence, leadership skills, and economic independence. The program provides vocational training, financial literacy, and small business support for sustainable livelihoods. Women are encouraged to participate actively in decision-making processes within their communities. Efforts are also made to challenge harmful gender norms and promote equality at all levels.
Free Legal Aid and Education
GCESS provides free legal aid services to support girls and women facing injustice and rights violations. The program raises awareness about legal rights, access to justice, and available protection mechanisms. Legal counseling and referrals are offered to survivors of abuse, discrimination, and exploitation. Community education sessions help build confidence to seek justice and uphold human rights.
Gender Base Violent (GBV)
GCESS addresses gender-based violence by providing prevention, response, and support services to survivors. The program raises awareness on harmful practices such as early marriage, forced marriage, and abuse. Safe spaces are created where survivors can access counseling, protection, and referral services. Community leaders are engaged to challenge norms that perpetuate violence and inequality.
WASH
GCESS implements Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene initiatives to improve health and well-being in vulnerable communities. The program ensures access to safe drinking water through construction and rehabilitation of water sources. Hygiene awareness campaigns are conducted to promote proper sanitation practices and disease prevention. Special attention is given to schools to create clean and safe environments for girls and young learners.
Emergency Response
GCESS responds to emergencies by providing immediate support to affected girls, women, and vulnerable households. The program delivers essential supplies such as food, shelter materials, and hygiene kits during crises. Psychosocial support is also provided to help individuals recover from trauma and displacement. Coordination with partners ensures timely and effective response to humanitarian needs in affected areas.
Peace Building
GCESS promotes peaceful coexistence through dialogue, community engagement, and conflict resolution initiatives. The program facilitates discussions among diverse groups to address tensions and build mutual understanding. Youth and women are empowered as key actors in promoting peace and social cohesion. Cultural activities and awareness campaigns are used to strengthen unity and reduce community conflicts.
Child Protection
GCESS works to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harmful social practices in communities. The program promotes child rights awareness among parents, teachers, and community stakeholders. Safe environments are created in schools and communities to support children’s growth and well-being. Children are also empowered through life skills, leadership training, and participation in protection activities.
